Unemployment rises by one-third in West Dunbartonshire

Join thousands of others in getting the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox.The number of people out of work in West Dunbartonshire has increased by a third over the past five years.Statistics published last week by the Department for Work and Pensions show an additional 133 people claimed Universal Credit locally between March and April.Across West Dunbartonshire a total of 4,327 people are now classed as searching for work, a figure that has risen by 1,152 (36 percent) over the past five years.Of those 4,327, 794 are between the ages of 18 and 24 – a figure that has risen by 29 percent since 2016.In an attempt to support more people back into employment, the local JobCentre Plus secured 80 Kickstart vacancies working.
