UK weather: Bookies slash odds on snow this week as 20C scorcher followed by '10 unsettled days'

weather-wise, anyway.A mild start to the week will continue today as the south-east is braced to enjoy unseasonably warm temperatures of 20C, according to the Met Office national weather agency.This is thanks to a warm but cloudy weather front coming from the continent.By the evening, however, rain will start to arrive, beginning an unsettled period set to last ten miserable days — and possibly longer.Some of the downpour tonight is expected to be heavy, especially in the north and west.

The Met Office outlook for Thursday to Sunday says: "Noticeably colder on Thursday, especially in strong winds, bright with showers, wintry in the north.
