Britain's coronavirus death toll has increased to 233 after 56 more people died in just 24 hours. More than 4,000 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the UK, with the most infections in England, followed by Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Yesterday the death toll was 177. NHS England said 53 people had died after testing positive for Covid-19, with two more fatalities being recorded in Wales.
One additional Covid-19 death occurred in Scotland. Saturday's increase came as Boris Johnson and Government ministers face mounting pressure to give front-line NHS staff the protective equipment they need as they tackle the coronavirus crisis.
