Phillips New York created a new record for the sale of a wristwatch when a Rolex Daytona, once owned by actor Paul Newman, sold for a jaw-dropping US$17.8m.
Since then, the flagship winter auction has seen Marlon Brando’s Rolex GMT-Master, a Heuer Monaco worn by Steve McQueen in Le Mans and a second Daytona owned by Newman, go under the hammer, each fetching a seven-figure sum.
