Tragic conjoined female twins who had two hearts but shared one body have died in Uzbekistan. The newborns died three hours apart despite the efforts of doctors to save them at Samarkand region children’s hospital.
Initially reported as a “two-headed baby”, the twins lived only nine days and died from “respiratory distress and heart failure”.
They shared two lungs and a single stomach. The twins’ tragic condition was identified in a scan at 21 weeks - but the mother was prevented from undergoing an abortion because of strong pressure within her deeply religious family.
