A woman has died after being pulled from a canal in Oldham. A huge emergency services presence descended on Wool Road in the Dobcross area last night (Monday, November 18) over 'reports of concern for the welfare of a woman' in the water at the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
Police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded. Eyewitnesses also reported seeing an air ambulance land nearby. Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead after being pulled from the water. A police scene remains in place near the Limekiln Cafe as investigations are carried out, with members of the public urged to avoid the area.
In a statement issued this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 7pm last night (Monday 18 November) we were called to reports of concern for welfare of a woman in the canal on Wool Road, Dobcross.
