Tier four shoppers frantically hit Scots high streets before three-week coronavirus shutdown

Christmas gifts as parts of Scotland prepare to enter into level four restrictions tonight. Eleven council areas will move into the highest tier of the Scottish Government’s coronavirus alert system at 6pm this evening.

Non-essential shops will have to close under the new guidelines, which will remain in place for three weeks.Essential retail, such as newsagents, supermarkets, pharmacies and post offices, will stay open during that time.

Scores of Scots have flocked to shopping hubs in level four areas today in a last minute bid to pick up festive presents. Glasgow’s Buchanan Street was as busy as a pre-pandemic midweek afternoon as hundreds of shoppers filled the popular retail area.
