Manchester has been transformed into a TV set again for new Netflix series The Irregulars. Castlefield is being transported back to Victorian times for the Sherlock Holmes spin-off.
The cobbles under the railway bridge were filled with smoke and water hoses were also used to create a misty, drizzly atmosphere.
The drama is inspired by the Baker Street Irregulars, a gang of street urchins who helped Holmes solve mysteries in Arthur Conan Doyle’s books.
Written by Tom Bidwell, whose previous work includes My Mad Fat Diary, this new interpretation sees Holmes portrayed as a delinquent drug addict who takes all the credit for their crime-cracking skills.
