A remarkable 97-year-old great-grandmother has become one of the oldest women in the world to beat coronavirus. Joyce Goldstraw, who served as a corporal in the Women’s RAF during the Second World War, tested positive for Covid-19 after she fell ill on March 16.

The great grandma was admitted to Macclesfield hospital, where she received two weeks of treatment. Hospital measures meant Joyce’s family could not visit her during her stay - including daughter Kay, who lives in Australia and is over here visiting family.

However, against all odds Joyce made a miraculous recovery and returned home last week to her flat, where she has lived for more than 30 years.
