Taylor Swift is calling for Juneteenth to be made a national holiday. June 19 marks the official end of slavery in the United States and commemorates the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas found out they were free, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had formally freed them.
Swift posted a video from the African-American-oriented online magazine The Root, explaining why June 19 should be celebrated as a national holiday.
