Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor In his first interview since his victory in the “Thinking Out Loud” copyright infringement lawsuit last week, Ed Sheeran told “Good Morning America” why he feels the jury believe that he did not copy Marvin Gaye’s 1973 hit “Let’s Get It On” for his song. It was “101 songs with the same chord sequence, and that was just, like, scratching the surface,” he said, adding that the jury “was very quick to see that and be like, ‘Oh, yeah.'” (Sheeran seems to have chosen that number randomly to illustrate a multitude.) Sheeran had been steadfast in his denial that he’d taken from Gaye’s song, despite the lawsuit brought by the family of Gaye’s co-writer on the song, the late Ed Townsend. While Sheeran’s song does recall the tempo and chord progression of Gaye’s hit, ultimately his testimony and even performance of the song, solo on acoustic guitar, during the trial helped to lean the jury in his favor. He even mashed it up with other songs that are generally similar.

Keeping some details to herself. Kelly Clarkson‘s upcoming album Chemistry will offer a rare glimpse into her divorce from Brandon Blackstock — but fans shouldn’t expect to hear the whole story.

Greatest Hits Radio has revealed the Top 300 most-streamed songs by UK artists from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. 

Boomy, a program that uses AI to generate entire songs, announced on May 1 that Spotify had launched a crackdown on tracks created using its technology that had been uploaded to the platform. In a statement to Music Business Worldwide published two days later, a representative for Spotify said that the company had detected illegitimate streams on a number of Boomy-generated songs and taken down the offenders.

Blink-182 kicked off their 2023 reunion headline tour in St. Paul, Minnesota last night (May 4) where the band performed a career-spanning set that included Matt Skiba-era songs.The band reunited at the Xcel Energy Center with their classic line-up — Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker — for the opening night of their world tour, which featured a 25-song setlist.The pop-punk icons were initially scheduled to debut their reunited line-up in March, but were forced to postpone after drummer Barker suffered repeated injuries to his finger. In it, he recalls meeting Lightfoot as a child, when Trudeau’s father Pierre was prime minister in the 1970s and ’80s. “I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing yesterday of Gordon Lightfoot, one of Canada’s greatest singer-songwriters.

Ed Sheeran‘s wife Cherry Seaborn has revealed that the singer wrote “seven songs in four hours” after learning of her cancer diagnosis.Seaborn was diagnosed with a tumour last year while she was pregnant with the couple’s second child.As reported by Metro, a scene in Sheeran’s upcoming Disney+ documentary series The Sum Of It All sees Seaborn discussing her husband’s response to the news.She said: “We had the diagnosis of the tumour and the next day Eds went down into the basement and wrote seven songs in four hours.“Some people write a diary and get their emotions out through the pen and for Ed, if something really intense happens, he’ll go and write a song.”Sheeran has previously said that his new songs, many of which make up his upcoming album ‘-‘ (Subtract), out May 5, are based on the “unbreakable” bond he formed with Seaborn through her illness.During his Eventim Apollo show in London in late March, Sheeran told the crowd: “My dad said to me when I got married, ‘You will not know what real love and marriage is until there’s death and real sickness’. Ed Sheeran penned seven songs in just four hours after learning his wife, Cherry Seaborn, had been diagnosed with cancer.The couple, who have known each other since they were just 11, got together in 2015 and were married four years later and enjoying marital bliss every day - until February, 2022 when Cherry was told by medics that she had a tumour that needed urgent treatment. She was six months pregnant with the couple's second child and the gruelling diagnosis also came around the same time as the death of Ed's close friend Jamal Edwards and while he was wrapped up in an intense court battle over his hit song Shape of You.

Metallica played the second night of their first “no repeat” weekender in Amsterdam yesterday (April 29), with several ‘72 Seasons’ songs getting their live debut.Metallica’s ‘M72’ tour will see the band play two shows in every city they visit, and comes with the promise of two entirely unique sets.The first show of the tour took place earlier this week and saw the band play a host of fan-favourite tracks as well as ’72 Seasons’ songs ‘Sleepwalk My Life Away’ and ‘Screaming Suicide’ for the first time live.Night two saw Metallica did deeper into their back catalogue, opening with ‘Ride The Lightning’ instrumental track ‘The Call Of Ktulu’ before playing ‘Creeping Death’. Tyler, The Creator performed three new songs from the deluxe version of his sixth album ‘Call Me If You Get Lost‘ at a pop-up show in Los Angeles.The rapper took to Twitter to announce that he would perform on April 26 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. The intimate show which he said would be “just me and a mic nothing special” instantly sold out.The show’s set included the live debut of ‘Dogtooth’ and ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ from the new deluxe version of the record, titled ‘Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale’ – featuring tracks that originally didn’t make the cut of the record.
