Selome Hailu It’s a “Suits” week yet again. The legal drama that ran on USA Network from 2011 to 2019 had its third week in a row in the No. 1 spot on Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings.

There might be a “Suits” revival at some point, but executive producer Gene Klein doesn’t think Meghan Markle will be returning as Rachel Zane.

Suits is finding new life on streaming platforms like Peacock and Netflix and recently had 3.1B viewing minutes, according to Nielsen data.

“Suits” just set a streaming record nearly four years after it aired its ninth and final season. Nielsen reports that the Meghan Markle-led drama, which aired on USA Network between 2011 and 2019, set a streaming record during the week of June 26 to July 2.

It was just announced that Suits just broke an impressive record, nearly four years after the final episode aired on USA Network.

During the June 26-July 2 viewing window, the legal drama was watched for 3.1 billion minutes across both Netflix and Peacock, up from 2.3 billion the week before.

Suits is proving to be a top performer for Netflix and Peacock.

During the June 19-25 viewing window, a new-old favorite took the No. 1 position: “Suits,” the USA Network legal drama that concluded in 2019 and recently landed on Netflix. “Suits” was watched for 2.3 billion minutes during this viewing period, which marked the first full week that the series has been available on Netflix — though it should be noted that “Suits” was already available on Peacock, and this statistic indicates viewership across both streamers. This is the first time in nearly four months that a title has crossed the 2 billion minute mark on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10, with the most recent winner of that achievement being “The Night Agent” with 3.1 billion minutes watched from March 27 to April 2. And that happens even less with titles acquired from other networks, rather than streaming originals — “Manifest” was the last with 2.5 billion minutes watched from June 21-27 of 2021.

Paramount+ is officially on Nielsen’s radar. The streamer made up 1% of overall TV viewing in June, making it the 11th streaming service to be independently reported in Nielsen’s The Gauge.

Netflix’s mind-bending anthology series Black Mirror has soared to the top of Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 list for the week of June 12 to June 18, following the Season 6 release.

Telly, the smart TV start-up with a novel product (two screens instead of one) and an even more novel business plan (giving sets away for free in order to focus on ad revenue), has passed several new milestones.

After premiering on June 15, the series opened to nearly 1.4 billion viewing minutes during the June 12-18 viewing window. Thus, dethroning previous leader “Avatar: The Way of Water” which fell to third place on the chart following an impressive opening week on streaming. The James Cameron sequel film joined Max and Disney+ on June 7, and was watched for 1.9 billion minutes in its first five days of availability. “S.W.A.T” took second place on the overall list for Hulu, Netflix, and Paramount+ with 1.2 billion viewing minutes — pushing its billion-minute week record to four weeks — and ranked first on the acquired programs list etching ahead of “NCIS” by 500 million viewing minutes. Another program that’s available for streaming on both Netflix and Paramount+, the title landed on the overall streaming programs chart at No. 7.

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Telly’s free 55-inch 4K dual-screen TV sets are set to arrive at users’ homes this week — but of course, there’s a catch. The start-up, which plans to ship some 500,000 free, ad-supported TVs in 2023 in the U.S., is calling the initial wave a “public beta program.” The company says the new Telly households represent a diverse cross-section of the U.S. population, although the initial user base overindexes on education level and household income — and also skews toward Gen Zers and millennials. According to Telly, more than 250,000 people have signed up to receive a free TV set, which displays an always-on, rotating ad unit on a 9-inch-high second screen situated below the main 55-inch one. Each unit also includes a free Chromecast with Google TV adapter. The bulk of the half-million TVs will go out in the fourth quarter of 2023, Telly chief strategy officer Dallas Lawrence said: “We think there’s no better Black Friday deal than free.”

It’s a good thing that the Television Academy never scrapped the Television Movie Emmy category because original streaming movies stepped up in a major way this morning in the Primetime noms.
