Bar Italia spent their first few years as a band quite literally defying identification. There were no names or photographs attached to the two albums they released on Dean Blunt’s World Music label. This only deepened the enigmatic qualities of a group putting out music indebted to the indie rock canon — The Cure, Slowdive, and Sonic Youth are clear influences — on a label more renowned for its experimental output.

Shygirl, Bar Italia and Joy (Anonymous) lead lineup for Iceland Airwaves 2024

Shygirl, Bar Italia, Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul, Joy (Anonymous) and more have been announced as performers for Iceland Airwaves 2024.The festival will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and will take place from November 7 through 9 in downtown Reykjavik. Bar Italia share new single ‘Jelsy’ and announce London art exhibition

Bar Italia have shared their latest single ‘Jelsy’ and have announced an art exhibition set to take place in London.‘Jelsy’ is the second track to be released from the band’s upcoming LP ‘The Twits’. It follows the lead single ‘My Little Tony’. The track features the band’s – comprised of Nina Cristante, Sam Fenton and Jezmi Fehmi – three-way vocal dynamic and comes with a black-and-white video of the band performing the song in a bar while drinking.Along with the release of ‘Jelsy’ the band have announced that they will be hosting an art exhibit titled ‘Drawings By Bar Italia’ in London’s Frieze Gallery on October 27.

Bar Italia are a band who began with a super low-key status, releasing music sporadically via Dean Blunt's World Music label and largely keeping their indentity a secret. That led some to speculate whether they were a real band at all, or merely a moniker used by Blunt himself to share some seriously '90s indebted indie rock. However, earlier this year the trio revealed themselves and signed to Matador, releasing their critically-acclaimed debut Tracey Denim earlier this year.
