Nicola Adams will be inspired to win Strictly Come Dancing for her mum Denver who brought her up single-handedly after leaving her abusive husband when Nicola was just 11.

Denver, known as Dee, took on two jobs, working day and night to make ends meet bringing up Nicola and her brother Kurtis in Leeds.

Looking back, ex-boxer Nicola said: “My mum inspired me. She was a single parent, looking after me and my brother and it was hard.

We didn’t have all the latest gear. We had two stripe instead of three. I had my extra work on the side. “My mum used to tell me: ‘If you work hard and stay dedicated you can achieve anything.
