Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Rangers have admitted there has as yet been no contact from Aston Villa over Steven Gerrard. Villa sacked Dean Smith last week after a stunted start to the Premier League season. Record Sport revealed on Monday night Gerrard is one of their top targets with CEO Christian Purslow pushing for the former Liverpool star.

We told how Villa would not press ahead with a prime candidate in case they lost face – as Newcastle did with Unai Emery – and would instead back channel to gauge how receptive that option would be.We also revealed it could take as long as Thursday morning before the Premier League club made their move.And, as predicted, there has as yet been nothing concrete from either camp, with Gerrard himself tight-lipped on the rumours.
