Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has paid an emotional tribute to Gerard Houllier following the death of the former Reds and Aston Villa boss.Houllier died aged 73 just days after a heart operation with tributes flowing in from around the footballing world.Houllier appointed Gerrard as Liverpool captain in 2003 before departing a year later, with the midfielder helping the Anfield outfit win the 2005 Champions League and becoming one of the best to grace the Premier League.Gerrard has now turned to management, impressing while in charge of Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.Gerrard has previously cited Houllier's influence as being key to his coaching career and he took to social media to remember the Frenchman."Devastated to hear the news.
