David Beckham was destined for greatness under Sir Alex Ferguson, and the iconic Manchester United manager knew it even during Golden Balls’ younger days.
The Scot took Beckham under his wing before he signed a United schoolboy contract. Prior to his teenage years, if ever the Red Devils were in London, Becks would meet up with the first-team squad.
This often occurred at the West Lodge Park Hotel in Cockfosters. And a 12-year-old Beckham was made United’s mascot back in 1987 for their Division One visit to West Ham at Upton Park.
It was just one of the ways in which Ferguson looked to immerse Beckham into life as a United player as he prepared him for a bright future.
