The need to wear a mask to help slow the spread of coronavirus has been the source of much confusion during the pandemic. Scientists and politicians have been discussing whether people in the UK should be wearing face coverings while out and about.

The government's top scientific experts are set to review key evidence today and will issue guidance to the nation at the weekend.

But it is expected that UK advice will stick with the same - that the wearing of masks in public is not be compulsory. Some experts say it will instead be voluntary, and that people can cover their nose and mouth with a homemade mask or scarf if they want.
