Several of those evacuated from Afghanistan and flown to the UK following the Taliban takeover have arrived at a ‘holding hotel’ in the borough, following time spent at quarantine hotels in Manchester.
They are individuals and families who supported the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan. The exact number of evacuees being placed in the hotel has not been disclosed by Wigan Council or the Home Office.
