Last Friday the mayor had appeared before a scrutiny panel to describe a litany of failures within the force, arguing there had recently been a ‘persistent and repeated underplaying of problems’ at ‘the most senior level’, including, ‘at worst’, information being deliberately withheld.
However he was not pressed by councillors at the meeting on the claim. Yesterday, at the mayor’s weekly press conference, the M.E.N.
asked exactly what information had not been shared with his office by the force. Mr Burnham said the ‘specific’ example he had in mind.
