A Scots pest controller is urging people to be vigilant as hungry rats move into town to feast on overflowing wheelie bins.

Exterminators across the country have noticed an increase in calls about rats, mice and nuisance birds during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Ray Smith, who owns Elysium Pest Control in Fife, believes an increase in wasted food from panic buying could be at the root of many recent rat call outs.

The mass closure of council run dumps is also causing problems as residents are forced to overfill their rubbish bins after spending more time at home.
