A Scots dad has told how his young family saw flames engulf a hill near the family’s hotel bungalow after a wildfire broke out.
Barry Campbell and wife Claire, from Glasgow, were enjoying a relaxing break in Gouvia, Corfu, with their sons Nathan, five, and Connor, four, when they began to smell smoke on Sunday.
The dad-of-two told the Record that they initially dismissed the odour before receiving emergency alerts on their phones from the local government warning them about the blaze.
Thankfully, the area they are staying in was not impacted by the evacuation but their concerns began to grow as they saw flames take hold of a nearby mountain.He said: “We could smell smoke yesterday around lunchtime but couldn’t see signs of fire anywhere.
