Scotland's justice system hits breaking point following court Covid-19 outbreak

Covid outbreaks at courts – with one alleged criminal set free and trials halted.A trade union representing court staff has hit out at how coronavirus has been handled by bosses and claims workers are being put at risk.The FDA union, which represents Crown Office staff, wrote a letter – which has been obtained by the Record – to the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service (SCTS) and Judicial Office for Scotland.It revealed:-A sheriff acquitted an accused of a serious offence, which carried a potential jail term, after the prosecutor couldn’t appear due to a Covid outbreak.-Another sheriff allegedly called a prosecutor’s absence in the courtroom “disrespectful” – despite coronavirus spread being the cause.-A lack of clarity over how staff are.
