Ryanair flight to Edinburgh forced to abort landing as Storm Éowyn brings high winds

A flight due to arrive in Edinburgh has been forced to abort landing and return to Germany after strong winds caused by Storm Eowyn reportedly caused difficulties.Ryanair flight RYR7RL was scheduled to touch down at around 7.35am on Friday, January 24, but local plane spotters tracking it on Flightradar 24 noticed it appeared to have issues with landing.Images show the flight descending before deciding against landing in the capital, reports Edinburgh Live.Storm Eowyn has brought a rare red weather warning for wind issued by the Met Office, with hundreds of flights delayed or cancelled arriving and departing from Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

Winds could potentially reach up to 100mph, with many public transport services cancelled and schools and businesses closed across Scotland on Friday.The flight took off from small German airport Weeze, near the border with The Netherlands, at around 6.50am on Friday, and was expected to land in Edinburgh at 7.35am.The aircraft appeared to fly in a loop around the capital before moving south towards England and across the sea back to Weeze, where it is due to touch down at around 8.35am.

It is not known yet what alternative arrangements will be put in place for passengers travelling to Edinburgh.A statement from Edinburgh Airport said: "A red weather warning has been issued for Edinburgh and large parts of Scotland, with strong winds forecast.

The Met Office alert has been put in place from 10am to 5pm on Friday, January 24."Police Scotland have advised that people should not travel on roads within the Met Office’s red warning area - passengers and staff are urged to follow that advice.
