Storm Eowyn: Power outages in thousands of Lanarkshire homes as gale force winds wreak havoc

Thousands of homes across Lanarkshire are without power as Storm Eowyn wreaks havoc across the region. And homeowners could face a lengthy wait till as late as Saturday morning until their electricity is restored.

A Met Office red weather warning for gusts of wind of up to 100mph is now in force for the west part of the region, with the rest covered by an amber warning.

The Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) website shows large parts of East Kilbride, Thorntonhall, Bothwell, Larkhall, Motherwell and Biggar have all been affected.Although some problems in Motherwell have now been resolved.

Advice on the SPEN website reads: "Should you experience power cuts unexpectedly, please use SP Energy Networks’ postcode lookup or call our emergency numbers.
