The former Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson believes the Downing Street Christmas party scandal “is not going to take down Boris Johnson”.

The Prime Minister is facing calls for his resignation after leaked video footage showed No10 aides joking about holding a Christmas party when lockdown restrictions were in place across the nation.

Following backlash on Wednesday, the PM’s former spokeswoman Allegra Stratton - seen joking in the video - announced her resignation and offered her “profound apologies.”Mr Johnson apologised for the offence caused by the clip but said he had been repeatedly assured there was no party on December 18 last year, and has asked senior civil servant Simon Case to carry out an investigation.Ruth Davidson
