Some 271,434 crimes were recorded in the region during 2020 when the nation was placed in lockdown and grappled with the coronavirus pandemic.
That represents a fall of 12 per cent. But some crime types saw marked increases despite the restrictions: stalking, drugs crime, bike theft and serious road accidents.
Some 28,118 crimes of 'stalking and harassment' were recorded in Greater Manchester in the year to December 2020, according to crime figures published by the Officer for National Statistics (ONS).
