70 years ago, the then Princess Elizabeth was enjoying a series of Polo Matches, Picnics and Dances on a long 11-week visit to the warm Mediterranean Island of Malta, where the Duke of Edinburgh was stationed as a naval officer.
The royal made quite an appearance on the island wearing a stunning purple A-line gown. The dress featured slightly lower cut neckline on the corset, more suitable for her age at the time.
She accompanied the gown with a white furry stole and matching bag. Of course, what royal outfit would be complete without some crown jewels, of which Elizabeth wore an elaborate necklace and a crown from the royal collection.When the 27-year-old newly crowned monarch sailed into Sydney harbour on 3 February 1954, she practically stopped the nation.
