A major river crossing near London is closed due to a tanker fire on the River Thames in the early hours of Boxing Day (December 26).
The southbound QEII Bridge at Dartford Crossing, that connects Essex and Kent across the River Thames, is shut. The closure is in place due to the 'risk of explosion' from the tanker.
A traffic diversion route is in place. A National Highways spokesperson said: "The southbound QEII Bridge at Dartford Crossing is closed due to a tanker fire within close proximity of the QEII Bridge.
Port of London have indicated the need of an exclusion zone due to the risk of explosion which includes the QEII Bridge. Emergency services are on scene." Inrix, the traffic data company, added: "Two lanes closed due to closure of the QE2 bridge on M25 Dartford Tunnel anticlockwise from J1A A206 (Dartford) to J31 A1306 (Lakeside / Purfleet).
