Prince Philip's Duke of Edinburgh title will eventually pass on to his youngest son Prince Edward - but not until after the death of the Queen.
Prince Philip was the third person to bear the title of the Duke of Edinburgh after he married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, at which point he also bestowed on the titles Baron Greenwich, of Greenwich, and Earl of Merioneth.
Technically, in keeping with the Letters Patent issued when George VI gave Philip the title, the next-in-line to the throne, Prince Charles, inherits the title the Duke of Edinburgh.
