Now, competing in his first FA Cup campaign as a manager, Phillips has taken the north east side to the promised land of the first round after one of the biggest upsets of the 4th qualifying round.Drawn at home to struggling National League side Scunthorpe United, Phillips and South Shields would have fancied their chances against the Iron, who were relegated from the Football League last season.
