Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has told the fiancee of late journalist Jamal Khashoggi he is "extremely sympathetic" to her plea for Newcastle's Saudi-backed takeover to be stopped.
Hatice Cengiz has called for the proposed £300million deal to be blocked in two separate letters sent directly to Masters via her lawyers.
The Saudi Arabian Investment Fund behind the takeover bid is spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, who has been accused of an involvement in Khashoggi's death.
Both the CIA and the United Nations have implicated Bin Salman in the crime, despite him refuting the claims. Khashoggi was working for the Washington Post at the time of his assassination at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2
