Pregnant woman breaks down in tears during midwife appointment as she has nothing to eat

Last week, Samantha Phillis, was working when she met a pregnant woman who had a major impact on her. The community midwife, who is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, was making a house call for an appointment.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Samantha revealed how during the appointment the expectant mum broke down in tears as she had no food in her house and could not feed herself or her children.

The parent was terrified to admit the truth out of fear she would have her family taken away from her, reports Manchester Evening News.

Samantha blames the "insidious demonisation of the working class" and the stigma around poverty for the heartbreaking situation.
