The figures involved were, unsurprisingly, breathtaking. Gardini was said to have sunk $200 million (£146 million) in today's money into his attempt. "So I went back home and to the company to try and work out if it was even financially viable," says Bertelli, who is sporting a black polo-neck, a signature Prada look.The most important person to persuade was his wife and co-CEO, Miuccia Prada.
