Over the years several members of Ian's family, including his four wives, have come and gone. The long-suffering character has been faced with plenty of heartache over the years such as the shock death of his daughter Lucy and finding out his beloved mother Cathy (Gillian Taylforth) is not dead and has been living in South Africa.
