Two wedding receptions with 150 guests were broken up by police at the weekend for breaching coronavirus lockdown rules. Officers in Blackburn found more than 100 guests attending a reception on Sunday evening, while in Greater Manchester a fixed penalty notice was issued to the organiser of a wedding with more than 50 guests and a marquee.
Both areas are subject to local restrictions to prevent people socialising with other households. Weddings and civil partnerships can still go ahead in these areas, but they must have no more than 30 people, and comply with Covid-19 guidance and venue capacity.
