Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and she was educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, with whom she has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

A Platinum Jubilee display of a scarecrow of Queen Elizabeth II sitting on a loo has divided public opinion.The villagers who live near Aberystwyth in Ceredigion in Wales are unhappy about how the Royal figure has been depicted in a local Platinum Jubilee celebration.The unusual model of Her Majesty shows her sat next to the roadside sitting on the toilet, with a pair of colourful bloomers around her ankles.She is joined by a soldier and one of her beloved corgis on the ground, and a banner next to her reads: "70 years on the throne."Pictures of the tribute attracted joy on social media but Ceredigion Council has branded the display "distasteful" and vowed to have it removed.On Facebook, users reacted to the prank with a mixture of humour and insult.A woman said: "Ceredigion, for all your beauty and loveliness, you don't half nauseate me sometimes."One user wrote: "It should be removed.
