Piers, 55, couldn't contain his pleasure when he was slipped a glass of beer on yesterday's show, as news correspondent Jonathan Swain reported live from a pub about the easing of lockdown rules.
But fans were not pleased that he flouted "health and safety" by boozing at work. One commented on his photo on Instagram and said: "Drink alcohol while working is against health and safety.
