A pair of Russian fishermen were saved from freezing cold waters that seem to have claim the lives of 17 of their colleagues.
The Onega boat became “caked with ice” and "sank under its weight” as it attempted to pull in a catch at around 7am this morning.
Boatswain Vladislav Butorin, 40, and crew member Ruslan Katyukhin, were plucked from the water in Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the far north of Russia.
The pair were spotted in the raging Barents Sea by another fishing boat, the Voykovo. They were wearing wet suits like other crew members as 13ft waves smashed against the boat and air temperatures reached minus 30C.
