Perth’s floodgates will now be closed when there is a yellow “be aware” weather warning of rain rather than waiting for an amber warning to be issued.
Last August, three floodgates were not closed in time and almost an entire month’s worth of rain fell within 24 hours.The yellow warning was upgraded to amber at 11pm on August 11 as the heavens had already begun to empty.
During the night of August 11/12, 2020 around 225 Perth and Kinross properties suffered internal flooding with many more flooded externally.
