Netflix has given a formal greenlight to His & Hers, a psychological thriller starring and executive produced by Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor). The six-episode limited series, adapted from Alice Feeney’s novel, comes from writer/executive producer Bill Dubuque; writer/executive producer Dee Johnson (Fellow Travelers, The Good Wife), who serves as showrunner; filmmaker William Oldroyd, who serves as a writer and will direct the first episode; as well as executive producers Jessica Chastain and Kristen Campo. Fifth Season is the studio.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Netflix has ordered the psychological thriller limited series “His & Hers” with Tessa Thompson set for the lead role, Variety has learned. The streamer has given the series a six-episode order. It is based on the Alice Feeney novel of the same name.

Author Ottessa Moshfegh co-writes the movie version of her award-winning novel and it promises much with the presence of Thomasin McKenzie and Anne Hathaway.

EXCLUSIVE: Negeen Yazdi, Senior Vice President, Film Development & Production at Fifth Season, is departing the company. The well-liked veteran exec has been with Fifth Season (formerly known as Endeavor Content) for the past six years, helping to build its film slate and managing the film development team alongside Dan Guando. Deadline understands that her departure is amicable and that she will remain attached to select projects in an executive producer capacity. It is also understood this is unrelated to the recent staff cuts at Fifth Season, which were spurred on as a result of the impact of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The Toronto Film Festival is almost a month away and that means there are more films still to be announced as part of the 2023 slate. Today, TIFF revealed the 10 movies selected as part of the competition Platform program.

The movie debuted to strong reviews at Sundance, but its high price tag, said by sources to be in the range of $15 million, made it difficult for the film to score a distribution deal. It languished on the market for roughly two months as several studios kicked the tires. This despite the combined star wattage of “Jojo Rabbit’s” Thomasin McKenzie and Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway and a twisty plot. The rest of the ensemble includes Shea Whigham, Marin Ireland, and Owen Teague. William Oldroyd (“Lady Macbeth”) directs from a script by Moshfegh who adapted “Eileen” with Luke Goebel. Neon will release the film theatrically this fall.
