Emilio Mayorga Emily Mortimer (“Transiberian,” “Match Point”) and writer-director Jim Cummings (“Thunder Road,” “The Beta Test”) boarded Miguel Faus’ feature debut “Calladita,” whose financing is expected to be raised entirely through NFTs and Web3 systems.It would mark the first time ever that a European film is backed by NTFs (non-fungible tokens) and decentralized web software handled by the crypto community Web3.Based on the eponymous short film which played at the Palm Springs Short and London Short Film festivals, “Calladita” will offer a character study of its protagonist and, through her eyes, a portrait of the Catalan high bourgeoisie with a mix of realism and satire. “I’m involved because I’m a big fan of Miguel, who’s short ‘Calladita’ I really loved,” Mortimer said in a statement.Joining Mortimer, cast members include Spanish Academy Goya Award-winner Antonio de la Torre (“The Endless Trench”) Susana Abaitua (“Patria”) and Paula Grimaldo, who played the lead in the original short.“Calladita” follows a young Colombian woman who works as a domestic laborer in a summer mansion in Costa Brava.

John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent Film Factory Entertainment has acquired worldwide sales rights to Daniel Guzmán’s “The Redemption,” starring Guzmán, “Money Heist’s” Itziar Ituño, Susana Abaitua who headed Netflix hit “Crazy About You” and Luis Tosar, co-star of “Undercover,” the second highest-grossing Spanish film of 2024. Packing a top-notch Spanish cast, “The Redemption,” (“La Deuda”) opens Spain’s Malaga Festival this March 14 with a drama tensed by large thriller elements from the near get-go.

Jamie Lang FilmSharks has released the international trailer for “The Bus of Life,” the latest feature from Barcelona-based Arcadia Motion Pictures, producers of Pablo Berger’s Oscar-nominated movie “Robot Dreams” and Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s Cesar and Goya-winner “The Beasts.” “The Bus of Life,” which will be released in Spain by A Contracorriente Films on July 3, is directed by Ibón Cormenzana, a producer of both of those films. In the film, Andrés, a music teacher diagnosed with cancer, heads into the city to seek treatment for the illness.

Netflix has released information on two Spanish features it has punished into production including the political thriller Un Fantasma en la Batalla produced by Society of Snow filmmaker J.A. Bayona.

Liza Foreman Spanish SVOD service Atresplayer Premium has announced at the Berlinale Series Market a raft of new cast members joining the continuation of its award-winning trans series “Veneno,” which played on HBO Max in the U.S. to large acclaim. Joining the cast of the seven-episode series “Vestidas De Azul” are supporting cast members Susana Abaitua (“Crazy about Her”), Elena Irureta (“Patria”), Luis Callejo (“Jefe”), drag artist Estrella Xtravaganza, Mercedes Sampietro (“Gary  Cooper, Who Art in Heaven”) and Anabel Alonso (“7 Vidas”), among others. The announcement was made at a Q&A on Monday focused on the continuation of the series. It forms part of a Next from Spain event focusing on first looks at four new series.
