John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent Film Factory Entertainment has acquired worldwide sales rights to Daniel Guzmán’s “The Redemption,” starring Guzmán, “Money Heist’s” Itziar Ituño, Susana Abaitua who headed Netflix hit “Crazy About You” and Luis Tosar, co-star of “Undercover,” the second highest-grossing Spanish film of 2024.

Packing a top-notch Spanish cast, “The Redemption,” (“La Deuda”) opens Spain’s Malaga Festival this March 14 with a drama tensed by large thriller elements from the near get-go.

The third feature from Guzmán, an actor who burst on the scene as a scribe-helmer with his 2015 debut “Nothing in Return” which scored Spanish Academy Goyas for new director and breakout actor (Miguel Herrán), “The Redemption” also delivers multiple Guzmán auteurist traits: Heartfelt sentiment, the belief in bedrock found-family relations, social issue reference and a sympathy for the downtrodden.

Here, Lucas, 47, and Antonia, over 90 but still vital, share Antonia’s central city apartment. Despite Lucas’ being out of work, they live happily enough – Lucas attending to Antonia’s needs and the two buoyed by his optimism – until an investment fund acquires the building to turn it into tourist rentals.
