Scots may not realise that the last train today will be much earlier than usual.

There will be no trains running from Renfrewshire stations this Wednesday as Network Rail workers are set to strike in an ongoing battle to secure assurances over future job cuts, working conditions, and a better pay deal from rail bosses.

The red-hot summer of strikes is set to continue, with a fresh round of industrial action announced by union bosses.

More strikes on the railway will cause disruption across the region in the coming months. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) at train companies and Network Rail are to walk out again for 24 hours on July 27, and on August 18 and 20.

Yesterday it was confirmed that rail workers are planning on going on strike once again later this month.

It’s been a hell of a week on the country’s railways. As the biggest rail strikes in 30 years entered their third day on Saturday, around 80 per cent of services have been cut, and the country’s train stations resemble ghost towns.
