MTV Unplugged will be coming to Paramount+ in the US, it has been revealed.Launched in 1989, the series staged special performances from popular performers in an acoustic setting. It aired regularly from 1989-1999, and then less frequently in the ‘00s, often billed as MTV Unplugged No. 2.0.

Alice In Chains‘ late Layne Staley are set to be published as a new book titled This Angry Pen: The Lost Journals of Layne Staley. The 176-page book is being released by Weldon Owen Publishing and will be distributed by Simon & Schuster.

Check out footage of the moment below.The Alice In Chains guitarist and solo artist aired off the track during the first night of his ‘I Want Blood’ tour – celebrating his recently released solo album of the same name.Launching the North American leg of the tour with an opening night at Niagara Falls in Ontario last Friday (January 31), the grunge icon caught fans off guard by performing the song for the first time since November 1993.The track was originally shared by the band on their fan-favourite release ‘Dirt’ back in 1992, and hadn’t made its way onto any setlists – for both for AIC and solo members – since that following year.For the tour, the singer, songwriter and guitarist was joined by Better Lovers and former Dillinger Escape Plan singer Greg Piciato, who contributed vocals for some of the vocal parts from late Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley.Check out footage of ‘Hate To Feel’ being performed live in Ontario here:The rest of the set included various tracks from Cantrell’s latest record – which marked his fourth LP as a solo artist and featured contributions from Metallica’s Robert Trujillo and Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan.It also included other classic tracks from the iconic 1992 album including ‘Would?’, ‘Rooster’, ‘Down In A Hole’ and ‘Them Bones’.The current leg of the ‘I Want Blood’ tour includes stops in North Carolina, Georgia, Illinois and more, and Cantrell is set to bring the shows over the pond later this summer.

Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley and original bassist Mike Starr have sold their music rights to Primary Wave.Meanwhile, current members Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, Mike Inez and William DuVall have sold their catalogues with the band to Round Hill Music.As Variety reports, the latter deal was reportedly for $50million (£37m). Round Hill is set to receive a 100 per cent interest in the four current members’ copyrights to Alice In Chains’ masters and publishing.

Primary Wave and Round Hill have acquired music rights and royalties from Alice In Chains. Not jointly, mind.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but sources tell Variety the deal was for $50 million.The Round Hill deal does not encompass copyrights belonging to the estates of original singer Layne Staley or original bassist Mike Starr, who passed away in 2002 and 2011, respectively; on Monday their respective estates announced they had sold their music rights to Primary Wave.Round Hill will receive a 100% interest in the four current members’ copyrights to Alice In Chains’ masters and publishing — 94 compositions and 159 recordings — along with neighboring rights.

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorPrimary Wave Music announced that it has acquired the music rights from the estates of Layne Staley and Mike Starr of the Grammy-nominated Seattle band Alice In Chains.The deal will see the publisher acquire a stake in the Layne Staley’s and Mike Starr’s music publishing catalog, as well as master royalty income stream; terms of the deal were not disclosed.The work of the band’s main songwriter, Jerry Cantrell, was not included, nor drummer Sean Kinney or later members Mike Inez and William DuVall. However, the deal does encompass shares in some of the band’s biggest hits, such as “Man in the Box,” “Rooster” and “No Excuses,” as well as their biggest hit, “Would?” The latter song, released in 1992, and not only appeared in the era-defining Cameron Crowe film “Singles” but was also included on the hit soundtrack.
