Original Hawkwind guitarist Mick Slattery has died aged 77

Hawkwind and its original guitarist, has died aged 77.Hawkwind announced in a Facebook post on Saturday (March 18) that Slattery died “peacefully at home” the previous day (March 17) following a short illness.Slattery formed Hawkwind with his Famous Cure bandmate Dave Brock in 1969. They joined forces with John Harrison (bass), Terry Ollis (drums), Nik Turner (saxophone/flute) and Michael “Dik Mik” Davies (keyboards) and initially went by the name Group X.Brock wrote in the tribute on Facebook: “Me and Mick played together in a band called Famous Cure in 1967, touring Holland before going on to form Hawkwind in 1969.“I have lots of fond memories from our younger days, playing together in Holland and hanging out in Richmond at the L’Auberge Cafe and Eel Pie Island.

Norma Waterson dead: Iconic English folk singer and founder of The Watersons dies aged 82

Revered folk artist Norma Waterson has died, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the English traditional music scene.The Hull-born musician was one of the founders of seminal folk group The Watersons in the 1960s, alongside her sister Lal, brother Mike, and cousin John Harrison.Before her death on Sunday 30 January, Waterson was treated in hospital for pneumonia.The musician’s daughter Eliza Carthya announced the sad news of her mother’s death via social media. Today on Facebook Eliza wrote: “Hello all. Not much to say about such monumental sadness, but mam passed away yesterday afternoon.“Thinking of everyone who has supported and donated and just been there for us the last few weeks, the last few years, and through all of her triumphs and trials.“Our only hope is that she is with Lal and Mike and her mum and dad now, being held and welcomed and finally without pain.
