Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic For nearly a decade — since comedy legend Lily Tomlin played a salty septuagenarian in Paul Weitz’s “Grandma” — I’ve been trying to track down a copy of her one-woman show, “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.” Well, the search is over. Last week, on Friday night, Tomlin sat down with “Frank and Gracie” co-star and frequent collaborator Jane Fonda for the first public screening of the newly restored film, which made its debut at RescueFest — IndieCollect’s first-ever showcase of films restored by the organization — in Los Angeles.Long out of print and nearly always incomplete, the feature version (directed and shot by John Bailey) was released in 1991, six years after Tomlin performed — and perfected — her show live at New York’s Plymouth Theater.

The Governors Awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is always one of the annual Hollywood nights I look forward to, one that delivers Honorary Oscars in a non-televised but always warm, fun, and inspiring evening. I have attended every single one of them, and even wrote the 2nd Governors Awards, but I have to say Tuesday night’s 14th annual ceremony had an extra personal and devastatingly heartfelt kick to it, quite unforseen when the Academy’s Board Of Governors announced their honorees -97 year old Mel Brooks, Film Editor Carol Littleton, Angela Bassett, and Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter – way back on June 26.

John Bailey, the cinematographer whose credits including Oscar Best Picture-winning Ordinary People and The Big Chill and who became president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, died Friday in Los Angeles. He was 81.

Bailey’s death was announced by his wife, Carol Littleton, in a statement released by the Academy on Friday evening.

Three years after setting up her own business, former The Only Way Is Essex star Sam Faiers is raking in the profits as her popular brand Revive Collagen is said to have earned her over £13.2 million since launching. The brand, which boasts celebrity fans including Amanda Holden, Oti Mabuse and Paloma Faith, was reportedly built by Sam "from the ground up" alongside her business partner.

Sam Faiers jetted off for a flying visit to the big apple to celebrate the American launch of her hugely successful supplement brand.The former The Only Way Is Essex star, 32, revealed to fans on her social media that she had spent just two nights in New York. Although she couldn’t stay for long, Sam called the US launch “a dream come true” and shared that it had “always been my goal.” Sam, who admitted that she felt emotional leaving her kids behind in the UK, is partnering with Saks, a department store headquartered in New York that boasts 42 locations across the country, to bring her brand to a brand new audience.To celebrate the collab, Sam posed in a bright pink pantsuit outside of Saks’ most famous store which is located on New York’s iconic fifth avenue. The former reality star thanked her “amazing team” for the feat and paid tribute to her business partner, John Bailey.

Michaela Zee editor The Academy has announced this year’s Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting winners, including four individuals and one writing team. Each individual and writing team will receive a $35,000 prize and mentorship from an Academy member throughout the recipient’s fellowship year. In addition to the winners being featured at the 2022 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Awards, an ensemble of actors will read selected scenes from the winning screenplays live at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on Nov. 9. This year’s amateur screenwriters competition received a total of 5,526 scripts from 85 countries. After several rounds that were judged by industry professionals and Academy members, 11 individual screenwriters were selected as finalists, with their scripts read and judged by the Academy Nicholl Fellowships Committee before voting on this year’s winners. The 2022 finalists include Michael Boyle (“8 Habits of Highly Murderous People”), Darcy P. Brislin (“We Sing”), Jake Disch (“The Supremes”), Julian Hooper (“Madame”) and S.E. Sinclair (“The Stratford Wife”).
