Golden Globes 2023 host Jerrod Carmichael roasted the show as the glittering awards returned to screens on Tuesday -  following a one year break from screens amid controversy over ethical lapses and a lack of diversity.Carmichael, 35, didn't shy away from the controversy in his opening monologue as he took aim  at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's previous membership - and revealed he only took the job for a $500,000 pay check.The HFPA scandal erupted in 2021 when it emerged there were no black members among the 87-person association - with the 2021 awards show held virtually. Carmichael opened his monologue with 'I am your host Jerrod Carmichael and I'll tell you why I'm here I'm here... because I'm black.

The Golden Globe Awards named its host for the 2023 show on Thursday morning.Comedian Jerrod Carmichael, 35, will host the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards. After a year's hiatus, the three-hour telecast will air live coast to coast on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.He is a rare Black emcee for a ceremony that has been criticized for years for snubbing Black-led projects and performances. NBC refused to air the 2022 ceremony to allow the Globes and their parent organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, to make changes after a damaging 2021 Los Angeles Times investigation revealed its inner workings, including that it had no Black members since at least 2002.The Globes have since diversified its membership and NBC has reinstated its telecast, but it remains to be seen how its televised return will be received.Nominations for the ceremony will be announced Monday.

Christopher Storer, the creator, executive producer, director and co-showrunner of FX’s breakout comedy hit The Bear, has signed with WME for representation.

In a first for FX, the network is bringing two comedy specials to Hulu featuring stand-ups Kate Berlant and Byron Bowers. Both of the specials will be available Thursday, September 15 on the streamer.

BreAnna Bell FX is stepping into the standup comedy ring, with comedy specials from Kate Berlant and Byron Bowers to premiere exclusively on Hulu on Sept. 15, the network announced. “Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” serves as the comedian’s first live solo standup special. Set in an intimate space, the “A League of Their Own” star takes on not only the audience, but also a mirrored reflection of herself in her absurdist show. As she challenges the crowd’s expectations of her comedy, Berlant analyzes her own need to perform, as well as her connection to the room. Bo Burnham directed the special, which was filmed in 2019. He’s also attached as an executive producer alongside recent Emmy winner Jerrod Carmichael (“Rothaniel”), Chris Storer (“The Bear”) and Jeff Tomsic. “Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” is produced by Rotten Science.

After the intensity and suspense of tonight’s Emmy broadcast, the winners, nominees and presenters gathered afterward to blow off some steam. From the Governors Ball to fetes thrown by HBO and Apple, many of the night’s biggest names were there — except for, of course, Jerrod Carmichael, who took his Emmy and his fur coat and went home.
