The Santa Barbara Film Festival on Thursday revealed the lineup for its 37th edition, which is set to run March 2-12 in-person in its customary spot in the heat of Oscar season.

Angelique Jackson On Tuesday, “The Power of the Dog” director Jane Campion made Oscars history as the first woman to receive two best director nominations. Campion is nominated in the 2022 Oscars directing category opposite Steven Spielberg for “West Side Story,” Kenneth Branagh for “Belfast,” Paul Thomas Anderson for “Licorice Pizza” and Ryusuke Hamaguchi for “Drive My Car.” Her first Oscar nod for directing came in 1994 when she was nominated for “The Piano” at the 66th Academy Awards.

Oscar Nominations 2022: ‘Power of the Dog’ Leads With 12 Nods.

It felt almost like old times this morning even as Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross led the virtual announcement of the nominations for the 94th annual Academy Awards.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Lady Gaga have led the Bafta nominations 2022 with films including The Power of the Dog and Belfast among those to receive nods. This year’s nominations were announced during a live-stream on Thursday hosted by AJ Odudu and Tom Allen at BAFTA195 Piccadilly. Competing for leading actress are Lady Gaga, Emilia Jones, Tessa Thompson and Alana Haim, while Benedict Cumberbatch, Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith are among those to receive leading actor nods.

The BAFTA Film Awards nominations announced this afternoon in London offer up a diverse crop, and the highest number of female nominees on record; they’re also notable for a strong British presence and Will Smith’s first-ever mention.

Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed the intensity of his method acting process during the shooting of his latest film, The Power Of The Dog, saying that the cast celebrated finally “meeting” him when filming wrapped.Directed by Jane Campion, the western drama film follows charismatic rancher Phil Burbank (Cumberbatch), who torments his younger brother George (Jesse Plemons) when he brings home his new wife Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst).Speaking an interview with Nihal Arthanayake on BBC Radio 5 Live, the actor said he received a surprise at the end of filming the last scene, by which point he’d already “pissed off” Plemons with his method acting.“I embodied him for a more intense and locked in period of time than any other character I’ve played to date and that took a while to unravel,” he told Arthanayake.“The last scene in the picture was my scene of shooting, and at the end of it… I heard this clinking of glasses, the lights came up and Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ was playing.“I looked up and I was surrounded by the crew with champagne and candles and they were raising a glass to say goodbye to him and hello to me because they hadn’t met me!
