Jesse Lee Soffer appeared in his final episode of NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” on Wednesday night. After another hour of shutting out his wife and partner, Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), Jay finally realized that he had changed — and not for the better. During a case that involved saving the reputation of an Army vet who had assisted in a robbery, Jay went around the law (once again) to take down the robbers. He didn’t turn in the vet, who ultimately died saving another woman, in order to protect the man’s family and reputation. However, knowing that he’d broken the law once again — and stabbed a man in the process — Jay chose to resign from Intelligence.

Additionally, two new showrunners have been named: “Chicago Fire” Season 12 will be run by Andrea Newman, formerly co-showrunner with Derek Haas; and “FBI: International” Season 3 will be run by executive producer Matt Olmstead.

Being at the bottom of the Hollywood ladder, production assistants are often overlooked and particularly vulnerable — especially in hard times like the current Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Several cast and production members at Chicago P.D. are stepping in to help the 13 set and office PAs on the popular NBCseries, pitching in to give each of them $1,500. The money was distributed a week and a half ago, with a second payment on the way.

Jesse Lee Soffer has been unemployed for 12 hours. Which is a big deal, considering he started acting when he was 6 and hasn’t stopped since. Before he turned 30, Soffer had more than 500 episodes of “As the World Turns” and three Emmy nominations under his belt — not to mention his memorable role as Bobby Brady in the “Brady Bunch” movies. Then, in 2013, Soffer began his relationship with Dick Wolf. Soffer’s character, Jay Halstead, was introduced on Wolf’s “Chicago Fire” (the first “Law & Order: SVU” spinoff that would go on to launch the franchise) and then became one of the leads on “Chicago P.D.” when it debuted the following year. Soffer appeared on 189 episodes — every hour of Seasons 1 through 9 and the first three of 10. (The show’s 200th episode airs on Feb. 22.)

When viewers last saw her in Season 4, Maggie was hospitalized after breathing in sarin gas on a case. While OA (Zeeko Zaki) was able to rescue her in time and save her life, the episode ended with him at her bedside, letting her know that he has no interest in doing the job without her. Now, as Maggie and OA are reunited, he’s more protective than ever. “The first two episodes explore that dynamic. We explore OA’s attempt to be overly protective and Maggie trying to stake out her own lane in this new chapter of their partnership. Perhaps OA is blaming himself for certain things he shouldn’t be blaming himself for, so we definitely explore their partnership,” says Eid. “It’s not always easy to come back after eight or nine months after something like this happens. It’s not just on the person who actually suffered the injury. It’s also complicated for the person who didn’t suffer the injury but maybe blames himself for the other person suffering the injury. We dig a little bit into that kind of psychology.”

Emily Longeretta The world of “Chicago P.D.” will look a bit different midway through Season 10 as Jesse Lee Soffer will say goodbye. While viewers are disappointed about the actor, who has portrayed Jay Halstead since the series’ debut, leaving the show, showrunner Gwen Sigan is focused on writing the big shift. “We’re all very sad about it. Jesse’s meant so much to this show, and you couldn’t ask for more professional and kind person to work with. So we’re all going to be so devastated,” she told Variety ahead of Wednesday’s premiere. “I think it just what he brings to the show just as a person and then his character on top of it — you’re looking at a character that has meant a lot to Voight and is married to Hailey. There’s so many things that, story wise, are going to be very interesting to write into. So it’s been emotional for sure.”

Another big change in the Dick Wolf-verse: Deadline has confirmed that Jesse Lee Soffer, who plays Det. Jay Halstead, is leaving NBC’s Chicago P.D.

Jay Halstead since the NBC series’ debut in 2014, appearing in all 187 episodes. He will be departing sometime in the fall. “I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support during the past 10 years and want to express my deepest gratitude to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan, NBC, Universal Television, my fellow castmates and our incredible crew,” he said in a statement to Variety on Monday. “To create this hour drama week after week has been a labor of love by everyone who touches the show. I will always be proud of my time as Det. Jay Halstead.”

The historic “Law & Order” crossover, which will kick off NBC’s 2022-23 TV season, intertwines the storylines of “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “Law & Order: Organized Crime.” Following the murder of a mysterious young girl, Detective Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) and Detective Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) team up to track down her killer. Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and district attorney Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) also join forces to help solve the homicide case.
